Steampunk World's Fair

This weekend I was at Steampunk World’s Fair! The event filled more than two hotels when it only expected to fill one, so I knew it’d be big going in, but the entire thing was positively fantastic: An endless carnival of performances, discussions, costumes and dancing! The best panel that I went to was the […]

But Where Are The Goggles?

Here’s a quick link for you all… YIPE! Magazine, a costume fanzine, just came out with an issue on Steampunk costuming! It features a wide variety of inspiring steampunk costume pics, examining each and asking that all-important question: Does it have goggles? (Hint: Not every costume needs them!) There are also some lovely articles about […]

Fixed Animals

Found this cool article on TreeHugger today and immediately got Steampunk vibes – it’s an artist who takes taxidermy animals and then “fixes” them with machine parts. They’re all interesting, but my favorite is the wind-up baby crocodile.

Disney Does Steampunk

Everyone, prepare to clutch your pearls and bemoan the “mainstreaming” of Steampunk… Disney has just released its Mechanical Kingdom pins, featuring Mickey and company all decked out with parasols, spats, and, of course, gears and goggles. It’s all a fun mix of cute and cringe-worthy, and has a lot of people crying about the official […]

Some Quick Zeppelins

There was a post on Treehugger today asking: Are zeppelins the future of air travel? featuring both some lovely historic drawings and photos of zeppelins as well as sleeker modern models. I would certainly rather take a zeppelin than a plane for adventures, even if it wasn’t a pretty brass-and-cogs covered one for airship pirates. […]

Bright Colors, Baked Goods, and All Manner of Fun Things

It’s sunny out! (Here, anyway.) Spring is on the way! Love, flowers, and of course steampunk are all in the air! Or something. At any rate, here are the exciting things from around the steampunk blogosphere (steamosphere? We need a word for it, I’m taking suggestions!) this week. Lots going on at Steampunk Fashion! First, […]
