Recycled Vacuum Tube Pendants
I make these all the time. Some people knit to pass the time, I wrap vintage tech trash in metal. :) I hate seeing beautiful but outdated things hit the garbage, truly.

Image

The basic concept is one I learned in jewelry class using decompressed spirals of wire going in opposite directions to create a birdcage effect. Little objects like marbles, crystals, or my tubes can be inserted into the cage for safekeeping. Part of the reason I tend to wire-wrap my tubes is it keeps them from shattering if they meet with the floor--the wire is protective and functional as well as eye-catching.

These pendants are For Sale here: http://www.exoskeletoncabaret.etsy.com
I also like to trade for other people's artwork--feel free to message me.

These are gorgeous. I'm a sucker for vacuum tubes (I bought a semi-functional turntable at a swap meet just because it had tube speakers) and one of these days I might gather the guts to try this myself.

Until then, would you be interested in trading one of these for a hand-bound journal? You can see a bit of my work at http://saellys.etsy.com, but I'm perfectly willing to do something custom and more steampunkish if none of the ones I've got up currently appeal to you. Let me know. :-D

Thanks! I always save the tubes that are too big to use as wearable art in glass bowls. They're just so lovely even when they're burnt out.

I'll trade; sure! I'll have another batch of tube pendants made next week. Convo me via Etsy with your wire preference and we'll work out a deal.

I think these are absolutely gorgeous. There's just something so lovely about a glass tube...but then, I'm a biology/science possibly-major (still deciding) so I like them to have things in them...these are absolutely darling. I might think up a trade for you, since I'm not in any place to excahnge currency for things at the moment. I do mostly plain 2D art though. You can see it in my website and devART, if my style appeals to you. ^_^

But, that aside, these are beautiful and lovely! I really love to see recycled or foung art and jewelery. Great job!

As I said in the other topic I received mine last week and have worn it to a business gathering, I work part time at a DIY store (next to owning and running my own business) so I thought it was very fitting

I love it.

Thanks!

I made a fancier one too, for the sake of experiment and decadence. It's here:
